Luke McFarlane
gyo

This captures the lighting you might find on the ILM stage for the original trilogy.  Dark shadows and bright key light.  Simple and graphic.
I especially like how the shadow areas get lost in the simple black background.  Nice distressing and texture in the paintwork on the X-wing.  Simple and symmetrical composition.
Luke McFarlane
These AT-AT walkers always seem a bit tricky.  If you go too far with the distressing, it doesn't capture the scale.  If you don't do enough, the walker looks unfinished.  This seems to get the balance just right.  Simple, but hitting all the right areas of rust and dirt build up.  Really liking the use of cool and warm colors to show panel break up.
Beginner Gundam
Like this one for pure creativity.  Fun to play off the relationship of 2D and 3D imagery.  Nice way of showing off how the model is broken up into it's individual parts.  Must of been a real challenge to get the part lines painted white.
Would love to know how it was done!
SOL740
Enjoying the use of smart composition here.  By having a large ship in the foreground, they use the smaller ships to add some real depth.   Liking the top lighting as well.  Simple space lighting look, with a little bounce light on the undersides.
SOL740
Even though this isn't a typical film frame aspect ratio, it feels like a real frame from the original trilogy.  I wonder what it would look like composed in a horizontal frame?
Loving the use of motion blur on the falcon.  Star Destroyers look massive with the long lens they used. Star destroyers also seem to have the right amount of panel break up in the paint.

gyo
Very cool representation of what we'd see in the original trilogy.  Bright key light, almost over exposed.  Nice use of window lights with some good variation in color temperature.  Good simple composition.  Seemed to find the right variation of scale to those window lights as well.

Obviously this submission breaks the fourth wall of story and focuses on the model kit itself.  It also demonstrates great imagination and creativity and is visually appealing. It's just fun to look at and I'd definitely put this on the wall in my office!

R-2 in box
I love not only the realism but the metaphor here. This looks exactly like how the Archives ships props so to recreate that with a model kit in a photo is wonderful and awesome.  It shows skill, imagination and creativity.
tsuyoshi
To build a model kit takes some level of skill, to paint it well is another, to enhance it with outside materials such as weathering is even a higher level, putting it in a believable diorama is yet again higher but doing all of that so that your finished piece makes a statement and asks a question is art. This is art and my choice for overall winner.  Can I vote for this one twice?
I find the photo visually stunning and transports you to the scene.  I appreciate the integrity of the image and the skill of the builder especially using such small scale kits.  I like how the builder brought in used extra material like the cotton and the hammerhead to complete the image.
gyo
I'm in love with this photo as it transports me right to the movie. there is a total sense of believable ominousness.  The lights take this over the top, I too just wish there were some stars in the background.
A-doy
So, I'm going to take a risk and go out on a limb with this choice.  To do something original with the Star Destroyer kit takes some real thinking and I'd like to reward that.  I could see this as a commemorative monument in a public square someplace long ago and far far away. The Empire is defeated, long live the New Republic.

SØMY
gyo
Dobó János
Jan Sairanen

This is really looking real. I love it. I think this reproduced the famous Vanity Fair photo taken at Episode II production site showing how R2-D2 was transported to locations. Memos on back door, hinge, wood bars are exact same as real ones. Weathering on R2 is really looking cool and contributed scale effect.
Luke McFarlane
I think this is straight modeling from the box. However I feel how the modeler gave one's love to the model. It comes from painting and weathering. I think this model is good enough quality for stop motion production use. I also really like the pose and angle of the photo which I think the best for AT-AT.
BakaMaru2
This photo looks like a screen grab from Episode IV. It's really amazing. If you take a look closely this image, then you can find how details are modified or added to this tiny model(5 inches). It shows how the modeler's technique super is.
gyo
Is this a scene from the movie? It's hard to achieve this look by CG but model. Highlight and shadow from the lighting is great. The number of LED lights, brightness, size are perfect. I really love this image.
This image shows the scale. I think it comes from LED light gimmick and weathering. Can you believe this Star Destroyer is just 4 inches? Not by using Photoshop technique, this diorama successfully achieved galaxy space. Stars on background could make the diorama more dramatic.
This is a really fun diorama. It successfully reproduced the climax scene of the movie. I think the way of using cotton for dust and debris due to slow collision of massive objects works great. This is the greatness of Bandai's Vehicle Model (small model series). It demonstrates us how we can make fun diorama quick and easily

I think its because of the white background, it looks seemingly sober at first, but if you look closely, you will easily know that this work has been carefully made.
The overall color balance is also considered well, and this is just a masterpiece like the shooting model.
Mopic
Surprisingly, several dioramas that reproduced Joe Johnston with the same idea have been sent. All of them were great and was difficult to consider, but I chose this because of the small number of accessories. Probably this is Joe Johnston, an art director working on a model for photography at ILM.
SØMY
This can be called as a “sample work” since the kit is achieving a very high quality even its almost completely unmodified and its only being weathered. It looks simple, but I think its impossible to make this wonderful work without the modelists high painting technology and sense, including the attention to details of the painting.
gyo
The out-of-focus condition of this picture is rather real, and it is a wonderful one like the picture from the scene. In fact, to paint the window and then to paint it once again is not as easy as anyone can do it by patience. Another reason I chose this is because red windows are reproduced in some places.
Dobó János
I can feel that its been made very carefully. Also because of the modelists technique, I can tell that people who does not know the kit would not understand the size from this picture.
Jan Sairanen
The composition of the Star Destroyer and the back is very good and is decided well enough to be used as the main cut. From my personal opinion, I think it would be much better to have several small Tie Fighters in the foreground.
Mopic
This makes us feel like we are actually watching an official image and makes us doubt that its made from our model kit!

We can sense the full love of Star Wars from this work. We are very impressed by the scale reproduction of this scene!
(Chiaki Batista !!)
We can easily see that this scene is from “THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK” where C-3PO damaged and the construction of Chewbacca as absolutely great!
gyo
Although it uses electrical decoration from the Model Graphic magazine, its fine light processing and lines of the surface is just incredible.
Many people used the example from the Model Graphic magazine, but this work`s illumination of the Star Destroyer in the back and front differ which makes the photo increase its realism.
A-doy
There are things that can be imagined (created) as a way to enjoy plastic models, but this idea is very new and surprised us a lot. However, actually there were other photos of the same idea, but we thought that the Star Destroyer would be the best fit with the empire.
